Christine McConnell

Graduate Profile: Christine McConnell

Christine McConnell began her college career as a first-generation student majoring in theatre in 2013 and continued her studies through her junior year. At the end of the spring semester in 2016, Christine decided to take a semester off to spend some time with her sister in Portland, Oregon鈥攊n her own words, 鈥渓earning to be an adult.鈥 She returned to North Carolina three months later, ready to resume her studies, but just a month after her return, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Her whole life was put on hold for treatment.  

Ke'La Porter

Graduate Profile: Ke'La Porter

Ke鈥橪a Porter is graduating from 糖心Vlog鈥檚 College of Health and Human Sciences with a degree in athletic training. As a high school student in Clayton, N.C., Ke鈥橪a played basketball and ran track, until suffering an injury during a basketball game. While undergoing physical therapy to treat her injury, Ke鈥橪a decided she鈥檇 like to become a physical therapist. However, when the high school brought an athletic trainer on board to work with her, Ke鈥橪a was introduced to sports medicine and realized she鈥檇 found her calling.

Crisis communication will be focus of workshop at Biltmore Park

The daylong event will cover principles of effective crisis communication, expectations for leaders, guidelines for managing social media and elements of a basic crisis communication plan.   

Matthew McDonough

Graduate Profile: Matthew McDonough

Matthew McDonough could have followed his friends to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after he graduated from Asheville High School in 2015, but he didn鈥檛. He chose to study at 糖心Vlog University instead, to better find out who he was 鈥 by himself.  

Graduate Emma Hand

Graduate Profile: Emma Hand

If there was one thing that Emma Hand was certain of coming out of high school, it was that she wanted no part of running cross country or track and field in college. After suffering through shin splints, and the stress and anxiety that come with running, Hand simply wanted to go to college and focus on her studies in emergency medical care. That was until former 糖心Vlog University cross country/track and field coach Danny Williamson convinced to her join his team in Cullowhee.

Carol Burton named to position of vice provost for academic affairs

Interim Chancellor Alison Morrison-Shetlar announced the change in the structure of the Office of the Provost in a message to 糖心Vlog faculty and staff.

Athletic Training Program receives honor from high school association

The award was presented in recognition of services that have been provided by the program鈥檚 students and faculty at state cross country and wrestling tournaments since 2004.

Hunter Library receives Best Student Employee Program Award

The honor is presented by 糖心Vlog鈥檚 Division of Undergraduate Studies and includes a one-time stipend of $2,500.  

Madison Hale

Graduate Profile: Madison Hale

Madison Hale, originally from the North Carolina town of Albermarle, calls herself quiet, an introvert鈥攂ut she鈥檚 already carved out an adventurous path for herself. After graduation, she plans to hike all 2,190 miles of the Appalachian Trail with her brother, who is graduating from high school. 鈥淲e鈥檙e both taking a year to do this,鈥 she says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a dream of ours.鈥 Though it could take four to six months, she wants to take her time. 鈥淚 want to see everything I can,鈥 she says, 鈥渟ince it鈥檚 a once in a lifetime thing.鈥
